2021.12.03 22:01 MikeLanglois How do you combo these traps?

So I am working through the combo achievements, and some are easy because the fan blows them into the shark tank for example, but how do you:
Combo boxing gloves into bees - they die from the boxing glove and dont trigger the bees?
Combo slippery floor and bubble cannon - same deal, they die from one but not the other
Knock frozen agent into pinball bumper - I cant do anything to the agent while frozen, they thaw and then die?
Any help appreciated!

2021.12.03 22:01 MavenMoon_ Best Masters of Data Science Online Program

Hi everyone!
I have an MPH and currently working in public health. I’m looking to transition to a data science career and figured getting another masters degree would suffice. Therefore, my question is, what’s the best online master of data science degree that has an inexpensive tuition rate and does not require a GRE or GMAT?
Thank you in advance!

2021.12.03 22:01 UncleCeiling Going Native, Chapter 38

Read Chapter 1 Here
Previous Chapter Here
Only two days since the last chapter and I'm already dropping another one. It's time to admit I have a problem. Is there an Author's Anonymous?
****
"Elera! Did you have fun last night?" Stace's grin was interrupted as Elera grabbed his head in both hands and pressed their lips together, shoving her tongue into Stace's mouth in a passionate and possessive kiss. A quiet cough from the chair next to the bed drew their attention and both of them looked over towards Askel guiltily.
"Sorry. I needed to thank Stace for looking out for me. You're the one that wrote that letter, correct?"
Askel's large green eyes widened and he put a hand over his mouth protectively. "No need to thank me."
Stace couldn't help it; he started laughing, and soon enough the other two were joining in. Once things settled down, Elera held out a fist towards the Helkam.
"Lieutenant Elera Heleum."
Askel made an odd, complicated clicking hiss sound. Stace noticed with interest that his tongue was forked and the fricatives in his name were oddly two-toned. "Since you probably can't pronounce that, you can just call me Askel. It's a pleasure to finally meet you." Askel returned the fist bump, then picked up his omnipad and started tapping the screen. "I have a bunch of paperwork for you to authorize."
"Does it explain who you are and what you're doing here?" Elera smirked, but her eyes were hard and full of suspicion. Stace decided now was a good time for him to intervene.
"House Chel'xa hired him to... to take care of me. I don't know why, but Jel'si likes me. She said her brother hired Askel. He's a nurse and a ph... ph..." The damn words just stopped. It was frustrating.
"A physical therapist." Askel smiled. "As for why I was hired, I know there's a letter for you in the information packet I have, but I can't access it."
Elera pulled out her pad and Askel flicked a finger, resulting in a beep on Elera's end. She scanned it, then nodded.
"Can you read it to me?" Stace wanted to know more, wanted to be in the loop. With Elera and Askel both treating him like a real person, he needed to be a part of this. It was his life, after all.
Elera nodded, then shut the door.
"Should I leave?" Askel looked awkward, standing there and holding his pad in front of him.
"Nah, you can hear this. I just wanted us to have some privacy."
->
Elera Heleum,
I am Jem'si of House Chel'xa. You may have heard of me through your companions at the Painter Observatory. Hopefully, if you have, it has all been good things.
By now you will have received your orders directing you to arrive at the Observatory to take charge of security for our scientific research. I have asked my wives to review potential security concerns, and it has come to our attention that your ward, Eustace Grant, may become a liability. If someone can get to him, they may be able to get leverage over you or other members of the team.
To prevent this, and because my sister seems to have taken a liking to Stace, I have retained a private nurse and physical therapist. Once we build on-site medical facilities, Stace and his nurse will be able to join you at the observatory and he can continue to receive a high standard of care.
Attached are all the necessary documents as well as the qualifications for the candidate we selected. If our choice does not fit for whatever reason, please let us know and we will retain someone else.
Much Regards,
Jem'si Chel'xa
Honored Son of House Chel'xa
->
"This is great!" Stace could feel his cheeks aching with the size of his grin. "I was afraid you.... you would have to leave me here when you started working. And I really like Askel. He's good people."
"You know I'd never abandon you." Elera was also grinning as she continued scrolling, but the smile faded quickly. "Askel, mind explaining this gap in your resume? You had very high marks in school, loads of commendations, were being retained by a hospital, then left suddenly and almost a year with no employment."
Askel's face went pale and he looked scared to Stace. Scared, and perhaps a little sick. "It wasn't a good fit."
Elera looked up and locked eyes with Askel. "You know I'm going to have to look into this, right? For the safety of my family and the facility."
The helkam nodded. "I just.... I don't want you to hate me. And I want to help Stace."
Stace had to step in and help the poor guy. "Is it... is it something that could hurt us? Dangerous secrets?"
Askel's head shook back and forth hard enough Stace thought the young man might give himself whiplash. "Just me."
"Did you hurt anyone?"
Another head shake.
Stace looked at Elera, who gave him a nod. "I will have to check into it, but as long as Stace likes you and it's nothing dangerous I'm willing to ignore a lot. Still, you're better off telling us."
The helkam's nod was nearly imperceptible. "Can you give me a day or two? Just give me a try before you decide you can't stand being around me."
Suddenly, Stace got it. He was normally terrible at reading people, but it was so obvious. He knew exactly why Askel was upset, and he couldn't help but start laughing. Askel and Elera both stared at him like he was a crazy person, so he waved them both closer. If Askel wanted to keep it on the down low, Stace wasn't going to out the poor guy to the whole world.
"Askel, you're gay, aren't you?"
The Helkam went from gray to nearly the color of paper as all the blood drained from his face, but he didn't deny it.
"Seriously?" Elera looked at Stace, then at Askel. "That's it?"
He let out the tiniest nod, tears in his eyes. "I can go. Thank you for the opportunity."
Stace reached for the young man, but Elera was faster. She wrapped the Helkam in a hug. Stace managed to grab one of his cool hands and held it tight as Askel sobbed, his face firmly ensconced in Elera's chest. The look on her face nearly had Stace laughing again; it was obvious that she was NOT comfortable with a guy crying on her like this, but she was willing to put up with it for their benefit.
Moments like this just reinforced for Stace why he loved her. Elera was full of compassion underneath the rough and tumble marine exterior. He gave her a warm smile and a thumbs up with his quivering right hand while he continued to hold Askel's with his left. She mouthed a silent "you owe me" at Stace and he nodded.
"Alright, alright." Elera let go of Askel and awkwardly stepped back. "If you want to talk about that sort of thing, Stace is a better audience anyway."
"Really?" Askel looked at Stace with what he could only describe as 'hopeful confusion', his voice husky from the crying.
"Later. I'm too tired to... to tell the story now. Just know you are safe with us. Okay?" That earned Stace a hug of his own.
--
Askel stood in the locker room, staring at himself in the mirror. He was wearing a nurse's uniform; now that Elera authorized the paperwork he was officially on the job and had access to the hospital facilities. He looked at himself and tried to stop the tears from coming, but they wouldn't. He was too happy.
He had made it to Earth, where he stood at least a small chance of being himself. He had met his patient, who turned out to be as kind a person as he could have hoped for. And when they learned about who, about what he was?
Stace didn't mind. Elera didn't care. They both would support him, and for the first time since he was a small boy Askel felt comfortable in his skin. He knew he still had to be careful; this was a Shil'vati medical facility, after all, and this planet was incredibly dangerous for non-humans. Still, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was home.
The nurse's uniform wasn't quite the same as his old one, but it was close enough: The same fabric rendered soft from being washed too often. Helping people was all he had ever wanted, and he had his job back on top of everything. Now it was time to meet with Stace's doctors and nurses to learn what his patient needed. Askel just had to hope that wherever Stace was moved to was a bit warmer than this nightmare of a place.
--
"Alright, Stace, can you see okay?"
"Yeah, it's clear. I wish my pa.. my screen was bigger."
Samuel was back in his element, headset and haptic gloves on, surrounded by disassembled and rewired Shil'vati military drone controllers. Once the commandos were fed (a task that had pretty much entirely wiped out their food stores), Sam wanted to make sure what had happened here would never happen again. Thanks to Shil'vati medical care, he couldn't really remember what he had done. He knew it, but whenever he tried to think back on it, to focus too hard, his brain just kind of slid off the memory. It was for the best. He needed to be ready to protect Sammi again. He needed to be strong.
The observatory dome showed an overhead view of the surrounding few kilometres in the infrared. It took some hardware hacking and combining the camera software with some libraries used for stitching images for astrophotography, but his bizarre technological kludge seemed to be working great.
Eight Shil'vati surveillance drones were circling over the facility like vultures, their sensor packages overlapped and linked so that they provided one contiguous view. There was enough overlap that they could come down one at a time to recharge or check out a suspicious object without any blind spots developing. The cameras could see from infrared up through the ultraviolet and the resolution was fantastic. Once Samuel had some extra drones to play with, he was sure he could make it even better.
It was Ayen who had suggested asking Stace to help out, checking the video feed from his hospital bed. Samuel had his doubts about how useful the man, a decade out of time, could be in this situation, but he was happy to let Stace try. It would give him something to do at least.
"Not too bad, Samuel. What's that there?" Delec was standing in the planetarium somewhere near him, but Samuel couldn't see what she was doing with the visor on. She was an unknown, not a friend, not trusted, but that was okay. He was still safe. Marin was there to protect him, and a faint tapping of a keyboard meant Sammi was there too. He would be okay. A cursor appeared on the dome as Delec used a mouse to point to a spot on the map.
"Hmm, looks like a moose. Not uncommon up here. Can't get a good visual through the trees, but it's the right size on infrared."
A red line appeared on the screen and slowly traced a path going to the thermal signature. "This is the path the... the thing took." Stace might not be tech savvy but he was a fast learner. Another line appeared at a slightly different angle. "This is where it should go for the best forage. Movement is wrong too."
"What do you mean wrong?" Delec sounded skeptical but concerned.
"It's not moving like a moose. Someone is .... is acting like a moose. Sneaking. Pre... pretending."
"Are you sure? It doesn't look like a person." Samuel was already tasking one of the drones for a flyby even as he asked the question.
"Want to make a bet?"
Ninety seconds later, they had images of a human in bulky, misshapen thermal gear trying to hide in the trees and Samuel owed Stace a travel chess set to be delivered to the hospital.
"Nothing fancy, wood or... plastic is fine." Stace's voice on the call sounded smug, but that was understandable. Samuel made a snap decision.
"I'm going to send you a bigger touch screen you can link to your pad and I'll push you a software update that will give you control of the intercoms here in the planetarium. Whenever you get some free time, feel free to check the cameras. If anything looks suspicious, you can call it out over the speakers and one of the commandos doing the surveillance will hear you. Sound good?"
"No problem. I am... glad to be helping."
Samuel could hear Delec running out the room and shouting. Whoever that was out there, they were in for a very rough time.
--
Marin's text to Ayen was brief:
-Human detected on the perimeter. Get to safety.
His reply came moments later:
-Goddess above, you too? Stace just messaged me the same thing,
Well, at least her husband's boyfriend had a good head on his shoulders. Husband's boyfriend. Such a weird thought.
"Sammi, come on. We're going to the scope base."
"It's fine, just one guy in the woods." Sammi continued typing, sitting at their console next to Samuel. "The girls can handle it."
"Nope." Marin slipped her hands under Sammi's arms and heaved, the little human wiggling in indignation as Marin flipped them over her shoulder.
"You'll regret this!" Sammi declared theatrically, though it was obvious their words didn't have any real heat to them.
"Okay, that will never not be funny." Samuel had his visor off and was pulling off the gloves. He took the time to slip on a wireless headset before he followed Marin. "Stace, we're going into lockdown for the moment. Two commandos are watching the feed. Can you keep an eye on it too?"
"An eye? Was that.... a joke?" Marin glanced over at Samuel to see his normally pale skin going stark white, panic in his eyes.
"I... uh... I'm..."
"If it was, it was a good one." Stace gave a small chuff of laughter and the tension seemed to fall out of Samuel in one huge wave.
"Knock it off, keep the comms clear. Lifting off in ninety seconds." Delec sounded all business, though Marin could detect a hint of mirth there.
Marin continued to carry Sammi until she got to the hallway, then put the little scientist down. "Alright, enough fooling around. Let's go."
"I will have my revenge," Sammi mumbled, "just you wait."
"Whatever it is, you should plan to wait until after this crisis is over." Samuel had his pistol out, pulling the slide back just enough to ensure there was a round chambered. Marin gave him a quick nod as he reholstered the weapon.
"Oh, you'll be a part of it too, Sam. Believe me."
The trio went through the door to the base of the main scope to find Ayen already there. While cleaning out an upstairs office to use as his private room, Ayen had found a bunch of electronics. With Samuel's help, he had done some industrial redecorating at the scope base. There was now a wall of monitors cycling through various cameras, and the tables and the couches from the front vestibule now formed a little waiting room.
Ayen checked his revolver nervously, and Marin suddenly realized something. "We need to get all three of you weapon permits. And possibly less ridiculous firearms." She pointedly looked at Ayen's weapon.
"It's not ridiculous if it works." That much was true. Out of curiosity, Marin had looked up the specs on that revolver. No matter how much armor you were wearing, getting shot with that thing was going to ruin your day. She idly remembered Sammi's little traps. Just because they were slugthrowers didn't mean they weren't effective.
Stace's voice sounded through the comm. "You have another contact fifteen degrees north... nor.... shit, north-left of our target, half a kilometre out. A real moose, but check it anyway. If it's real, don't hurt it."
"Why not?" Marin couldn't identify that voice. One of the commandos.
"Cut the chatter." Delec's voice was harsh. "But please do answer the question."
"Moose are dangerous. Think.... like free security. If they shoot the moose, we hear it. If they don't, the moose.. it... you know."
"Hah, understood. Team, take note. Leave the mooses alone. They are our friends. Contact in ten seconds."
After that, Marin just had to stand around and wait. Sammi started whispering something in Ayen's ear, then Ayen waved Samuel over and they started having a quiet conversation. When Marin started to get close, Sammi stuck a hand out.
"Nope."
"But I-"
"This conversation isn't for you. Sorry. Important vengeance stuff."
Before Marin could really try to figure that out, Delec's voice returned.
"Target has been captured, no casualties. Returning now."
--
Elera's pad chirped, getting her and Stace's attention. "Well, shit."
"What is it?"
"Military Intelligence is sending someone to interrogate that human you caught. I really should be there, and the MI girl is leaving from this base so I can share a ride. But that means i have to leave now."
Stace nodded. "Makes sense. You have a job."
"I told you I wasn't going to leave you alone, Stace. I can't just go back on my word like that." Truth was, Elera was getting the itch for action. She needed to be at the observatory, needed to get to her work. But she had promised, and that meant something.
"You're not leaving me. You are just going away." Stace smiled that goofy smile at her, and she felt her own lips pulling up in return. "I never thought you meant it... li... meant you would be here in person all the time."
She leaned down and pressed her lips against his, feeling Stace's warmth, that soft tongue slipping into her mouth even as her own tasted him. "I wish I could give you a proper goodbye, but I don't have time."
"It's okay. I feel gross right now anyway. Need a shower." Another one of those goofy smiles. "Before you go, can we buy these?" He held his pad out and Elera started scrolling.
"Stace, this is really expensive." Almost two thousand credits with rush shipping included. "You're sure?"
The man nodded, skin around his mismatched eyes wrinkling with his smile. "I'm sure. It will be a nice surprise." Elera shrugged and pushed her thumb to Stace's pad, authorizing the purchase with a chirp.
"It's your money. See you soon, Stace."
Another quick kiss, then Elera grabbed her bag and was gone.

2021.12.03 22:01 autotldr Omicron variant may have picked up a piece of common-cold virus

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 62%. (I'm a bot)

REUTERS/Jeenah Moon.Register now for FREE unlimited access to reuters.comNEW YORK, Dec 3 - The Omicron variant of the virus that causes COVID-19 likely acquired at least one of its mutations by picking up a snippet of genetic material from another virus - possibly one that causes the common cold - present in the same infected cells, according to researchers.
Scientists do not yet know whether Omicron is more infectious than other variants, whether it causes more severe disease or whether it will overtake Delta as the most prevalent variant.
This new mutation could have first occurred in a person infected with both pathogens when a version of SARS-CoV-2 picked up the genetic sequence from the other virus, Soundararajan and colleagues said in the study, which has not yet been peer-reviewed.
The same genetic sequence appears many times in one of the coronaviruses that causes colds in people - known as HCoV-229E - and in the human immunodeficiency virus that causes AIDS, Soundararajan said.
"We probably missed many generations of recombinations" that occurred over time and that led to the emergence of Omicron, Soundararajan added.
"You have to vaccinate to reduce the odds that other people, who are immunocompromised, will encounter the SARS-CoV-2 virus," Soundararajan said.
